A “Sinners & Saints Soiree” roots music celebration has been announced at the Los Angeles landmark venue on November 2. The lineup features folkgrass specialists The Storytellers, The Rattlesnakes bluegrass band and a much anticipated reunion of Sugar in the Gourd.
October 25, 2019, Los Angeles, CA – RootsGrass Promotions and Molly Malone’s Irish Pub has announced an All Souls’ Day roots music celebration on November 2, 2019. Dubbed a “Sinners & Saints Soiree”, the lineup includes the notable reunion of the storied all-woman Americana band Sugar In the Gourd, as well as the California bluegrass stalwarts The Rattlesnakes, and the hippie folkgrass outlaws The Storytellers.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting these three outstanding local roots bands,” said Jay Tinsky, Booking Manager for Molly Malone’s, a Los Angeles landmark, which for over 40 years has staged some of the best local roots music in the city. “Molly’s focus has always been on featuring traditional-style, rootsy, Americana bands with strong vocals and impressive instrumental chops. These three bands certainly fit the bill.”
Does the Earth’s vibration have anything to do with music? The science of “scientific pitch” seems to think so, and this band understands the resonance.
What does it take to rise in less than two years from a band that was busking the streets of Pasadena and Santa Barbara to being a favorite on the circuit of bars, taverns, clubs and festivals all around Southern California?
Talent, practice and a kick-ass repertoire of Grateful Dead songs, bluegrass, country blues, old time and folk music have worked well for Los Angeles roots band The Storytellers. But Giuseppe Verdi, the 19th century opera composer, and a 20th century German physicist, each have something to do with it as well.
How did your band choose the name “The Storytellers”?
We chose the name because we’re a folk band – a modern, progressive folk band – but a folk band nonetheless. Folk music songs typically tell stories. Stories about train engineers and heroes and villains. Part of the art of it is telling these stories with credibility and authenticity. The music isn’t enough. So a folk band takes a lot on when they decide to be a folk band and then decide to call the band “The Storytellers”. You’d better know what you’re doing!
