A “Sinners & Saints Soiree” bluegrass music celebration has been announced at the Los Angeles landmark venue. The lineup features jamgrass specialists The Storytellers, The Rattlesnakes bluegrass band and the much anticipated reunion of Sugar in the Gourd.
October 25, 2019, Los Angeles, CA – RootsGrass Promotions and Molly Malone’s Irish Pub has announced an All Souls’ Day roots music celebration on November 2, 2019. Dubbed a “Sinners & Saints Soiree”, the lineup includes the notable reunion of the storied all-woman Americana band Sugar In the Gourd, as well as the California bluegrass stalwarts The Rattlesnakes, and the hippie jamgrass outlaws The Storytellers.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting these three outstanding bluegrass bands,” said Jay Tinsky, Booking Manager for Molly Malone’s, a Los Angeles landmark, which for over 40 years has staged some of the best local roots music in the city. “Molly’s focus has always been on featuring traditional-style, rootsy, bluegrassy bands with strong vocals and impressive instrumental chops. These three bands certainly fit the bill.”
The Storytellers is a surging progressive Los Angeles bluegrass band whose repertoire represents a unique blend of roots-rock, Americana, country-blues, folk and traditional bluegrass music. They bring soulful harmonies, delicate acoustic sensibilities, soaring grooves, and their own hippie magic to every stage they stand on. Their recent tour included defining performances at the Huck Finn Jubilee and the California Avocado Festival.
The Rattlesnakes are a six strong California bluegrass ensemble performing edgy but instantly hum-able original tunes mixed with super-charged traditionals, and surprising covers. On the heels of dates last year across Southern California and Colorado, including playing on ’top to the world’ at Aspen Mountain, the boys recently took second place at the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Festival. Their critically acclaimed CD “Black Blizzard” is available on most online music outlets.
Sugar In the Gourd is returning to the stage for one night after a two-year hiatus. Named after a traditional foot stomping fiddle tune, the band is every bit as edgy and fun, but has the added depth of beautifully constructed original songs that encompass topics from trains, to love, redemption, all the way to a conversation with God. The four women who comprise this delightful Americana/Roots style band, have combined their diverse backgrounds to form a sound that is as unique as it is captivating.
“The band is thrilled to be performing at this special soiree,” said Lynn Shipley, spokesperson for the group. “We’ve all been eyeing an occasion to perform together as Sugar in the Gourd again and this was the perfect opportunity.”
Observed by Christians each November 2, All Souls’ Day is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed and follows All Saints’ Day on the 1st and Halloween on October 31st, together known as the season of Allhallowtide.
“For aficionados of bluegrass, folk and Americana music, Molly Malone’s is the place to be on All Souls’ Day,” said Michael Garcia, President of RootsGrass Promotions. “Some of LA’s top talent will be performing on that stage.”
The 21-and-over show begins at 8:00 PM and costs $10 at the door. Molly Malone’s is located at 575 S Fairfax Ave. in Los Angeles.
